My favorite part of Real Estate is that I never feel like I am actually working. My satisfaction is derived from helping others in their journey to find a new home or sell their existing home.
I spent seven and a half years working for an insurance company in both the claims department and the legal department. For many years, I thought this would be my career and was working towards a management position with the company. When the pandemic hit in 2020 and the volume of claims dropped, I found myself re-evaluating my future. After careful consideration, I decided to move into the real estate field and have not looked back.
I started my career working as a paralegal for a sole practitioner who primarily handled criminal defense cases. I routinely created new content for the website, maintained client relations, drafted pleadings and legal correspondence, performed legal research, handled all financial aspects of the office, and kept everything organized and in check, including the attorney I worked for. After three years of criminal defense with the occasional civil litigation and estate work, I moved on to work for an in-house insurance defense firm where I supported three attorneys. In my position of Legal Secretary, I assisted with civil lawsuits filed against insureds, primarily bodily injury claims. I drafted motions and set diaries for discovery deadlines, assisted the managing attorney in creating PowerPoint presentations to present in training other managers with the company, subpoenaed medical records which always required considerable follow-up, summarized medical records and social media records, and transcribed dictation.
After spending four years in the legal department, I moved into the claims department where I handled personal auto insurance claims (well over 700 annually). I handled both first and third party claims, responded to arbitrations, assisted in coverage investigations by taking recorded statements to help determine if coverage would apply to the loss, investigated and determined liability, negotiated and settled claims, mentored new claims representatives, and created and presented training for other claims representatives for using the RMV and for taking recorded statements.
I consider myself fortunate to have secured a position under Settlers Realty Group, LLC upon obtaining my Massachusetts Real Estate Salesperson license and especially lucky that Joe Marinucci has agreed to take me under his wing. I could not ask for a better mentor.
